What the MEDEA exchange covered

MEDEA funded a study or research placement abroad in the field of health sciences. This covered your living costs, travel expenses, tuition fees and insurance. There was no separate cash prize; the funded placement itself constituted the grant. The duration of your stay depended on your role: 1 months for staff, or 6, 10, 18, 22 or 36 months for students and researchers. MEDEA (MEDical UnivErsities Alliance) was an Erasmus Mundus project under Action 2, funded by the European Commission. It linked 10 EU universities with 10 universities in six eastern partner countries: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.

Who could apply

• Field of study: All health sciences subjects, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy and related disciplines.
• Level: Students, researchers (PhD students and postdoctoral researchers) and university staff, depending on the type of exchange.
• University: You had to be enrolled at, or employed by, one of the partner universities in the MEDEA network.
• Nationality: Open to applicants from the EU who have applied via a partner university.
• Study progress: As a Bachelor’s student, you had to have completed at least one academic year before applying.
• Language: You had to provide evidence of your English language skills. You may have had to attend a job interview.

How you applied

You applied online by the deadline of 28 February. Your home university has now reviewed your application documents. Each application was then assessed on a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of quality, motivation, qualifications, language skills and relevance to your home country. In some cases, an interview was compulsory.
