The Charles Schmitt Prize is an award for a paper on intellectual history. The prize is awarded annually. The winner received 250 Pounds Sterling, plus 50 Pounds Sterling worth of books. In addition, the winner will receive a year’s free membership of the ISIH with a subscription to the Society’s quarterly journal Intellectual History Review. The winning paper will also be published in this journal. The funds came from donations from anonymous donors and Routledge Publishers.
Papers may not have been submitted for publishing elsewhere and may not exceed 9000 words. Papers must be on any area of intellectual history, broadly construed, 1500 to the present, including the historiography of intellectual history. Eligibility is restricted to doctoral students and those who have submitted their PhD within two years of the closing date for the prize.
