The Schools Competition Act Settlement Trust was funded by 50 independent schools. It came about after a UK government inquiry into fair trading between these schools in relation to tuition fees. As part of the inquiry’s settlement with the schools they agreed to give money to the fund. It now offers grants to students in financial difficulties.
To be eligible for this support the student must be a past pupil of one of the 50 schools involved in the government inquiry. The student must also be aged between 18 and 30. Students at any UK university who meet these criteria can apply. Decisions on who gets the award are made based on financial need.
