The Government of Chile, through the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), offers scholarships to doctoral candidates who are pursuing their studies in countries outside of Chile. The idea is that returned beneficiaries of the program will enrich the cultural fabric of Chile. The benefits include 100% of all tuition costs and a round trip ticket to and from the place of study. There is also a one-time payment of $500 (currently about 370 Euro) and a yearly stipend of $1100 (currently about $820 Euro) for books and health insurance. Additionally, there is a stipend for monthly living expenses according to the cost of living of the target country and for any additional family members such as children or a spouse. The program provides for four years of funding.
Applicants must have a university degree and graduate in the top 30% of their class. It is necessary to be enrolled or accepted in a doctoral program outside of Chile. Applicants must be citizens or residents of Chile.
