The Fundação Oriente gives scholarships for performing doctoral theses and research papers. The topics should relate the Far East and Portugal in the social sciences and humanities. The studies must give priority to issues related to the collections of the Museum of the Orient. The scholarships have duration of 12 months. This period can be extended up to 36 months. The monthly amount of the scholarship is determined annually by the Foundation and varies according to the degree of the student. The Fundação Oriente undertakes to assume the costs of the trip round trip of the student.
Applicants must submit the form available on this website or the Foundation. Attached with the following documents: Curriculum vitae; Certificates of academic qualifications; A work plan properly structured and detailed; Acceptance document of the proposed work; Curriculum Vitae of the supervisor; Document acceptance and/or information on the respective institution; Two reference letters from the applicant/project. All documents must be submitted in English or Portuguese. In the case of translated documents of an oriental language, the translation should be properly certified.
