The Canon Foundation annually grants scholarships for PhD students to promote scientific and technological research. As part of the scholarship, funds are given to a small group of PhD students based in Europe, to continue their studies in Japan and vice versa for Japan-based PhD students to study in Europe. The fellows will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and skills to promote the cultural and scientific understanding of both regions. Scholarships are usually awarded for 12 months, shorter periods starting at 3 months are also possible. The grant is calculated on the basis of the planned research projects.
Funding is awarded to students from all fields of science and research. Funding is available for up to ten years after graduation or master's degree. The Canon Foundation supports scholars who embody the philosophy of the foundation "life and work for the common good". The promotion is aimed at residents in Europe or in Japan postgraduates.
