The University of Leicester offers two types of music scholarship to improve public and university social and cultural life. These scholarships are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students. They are usually awarded for one year but can be extended. They are used in many ways, but it is usually the money is spent on lessons with local teachers. Some students choose to spend their scholarship money on lessons with members of the Philharmonia. It can also be used to buy new instruments.
All instruments and styles are taken into consideration. Students are awarded scholarships according to their commitment to regular lessons and willingness to practice. An enthusiasm to perform and to engage with an audience is also important.
