The Hanns Siedel Foundation, which has close ties with the Christian Social Union (CSU), is one of twelve German support foundations for gifted students and supports students at German universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen). A maximum of 597 Euros per month is awarded to the recipient (calculated according to the German Federal Law on Support in Education (BaföG)). Recipients also get 150 Euros book money irrespective of their parents' income. After a succesfully completed probationary year, the stipend may continue to be received for the maximum possible duration as determined by BaföG.
Eligible to apply are all currently enrolled German students, incoming students and educational residents (Bildungsinlaender) of all disciplines. An application may be made at any point during a student's course of study. Incoming students may apply to receive the grant one semester before taking up their study place. Applicants must have an above average academic record (school and university). Evidence that the student has upheld prior sociopolitical commitments (in the field of social cooperation, open/denominational youth work or party-political experience) is required. A character reference that aligns with the values of the CSU must also be submitted.
